Continuing the series of “deep green” data centres designed by Arup Associates that feature a radical reduction in energy consumption, the practice designed two data centres for Meeza in Qatar. M-Vault 2 and 3 are forecast to be accredited LEED Platinum and LEED Gold respectively, an exceptional achievement in the harsh desert climate where external temperatures regularly exceed 45°C.

The climate creates a host of issues, including solar control and daylight for people working in the offices. Materials are also chosen for performance and resilience. The cooling system condensate is collected and reused for washrooms and irrigation. The data halls are enclosed by zones of plant which require no cooling but provide a layer of insulation.
